The Freedom I Found In Spring
Freedom is a strong value of mine. I believe the desire for freedom is within everyone, and today I experienced freedom through the eyes of my daughter.
This morning while I was running errands, I noticed the temperature was high enough to roll the windows down for the drive. I suddenly heard giggles come from behind the driver’s seat. I glanced up at the rearview mirror and saw the sparkle in my daughter’s eyes as she reached for the wind that was kissing her face. I realized the wind wasn’t just providing fresh air to her lungs but was providing freedom to her soul after a long winter of hibernating. She wanted to touch, breath it in, and hold onto the moment for as long as she could.
Letting your hair down, changing into sweatpants, saying “no” when you don’t want to do something, choosing to not read the ingredients on the label for once, and joining in confrontation to relieve a burdened heart are all a few actions echoing the motive of freedom.
Sometimes we forget about this gift, so I want to challenge you. Take a deep breath of the fresh air as you take a walk; don’t just admire the flowers when you walk by but stop to smell them; don’t just listen to the birds sing but stop and watch their movements and graceful flight. You are free to choose how you spend your time! Whether big or small, allow yourself to release what is holding you back from experiencing the fullness that life has to offer.
What do you need to let go in order to move into this new spring season with the utmost freedom?
