“Through the heartfelt mercies of our God, God’s Sunrise will break in upon us, Shining on those in the darkness, those sitting in the shadow of death, Then showing us the way, one foot at a time, down the path of peace.” -Luke 1:78-79
One of my favorite things about the Christmas story is the idea that God ignited us through His Son Jesus to come alive and live fully because of the grace we have been given.
So often in life, I feel as though I am going through the motions. We are all given the ability to feel emotions at their highest capacity, love without barriers, experience abundant joy and grow in all aspects of life. But sometimes, I just don’t feel like making the effort.
The pressure of motivating myself to experience the light of peace at Christmastime can be exhausting. But why do we let this gift become a burden?
A metaphor I share for the Christmas story is that we are all a pliable wax ready to be set aflame with light. When Jesus was brought to earth, he became the fire we had been waiting for that made us come alive!
Sure, we can remain a candle and go about our day, but how much better do we feel when we serve our purpose and allow ourselves to shine bright?
I think far too often our spirit is quenched. We try to light ourselves with things that aren’t strong enough to stand the test of time, trials, and adversity. We want to give up because it’s too hard to stay motivated and stand out among the darkness.
Yet when we accept the light that God offers us, we still face the same oppression, but we stand blazing.
I want to remind myself and encourage you to accept the free gift this Christmas season that allows you to awaken and shine.
