7 Ways To Find Happiness Right Where You Are
We are all seeking happiness. Most of us are not spending our days in “survival mode” as many of our ancestors did years and years ago. We have access to clean water, food, and shelter. Because our basic needs are met, it’s a huge blessing to have choices for how we spend our time! You would think because of this choice, we would naturally experience more happiness, but that isn’t the case. Anxiety and depression are on the rise though we have more freedom than ever. Instead of making a huge life change to ensure our happiness, try making small changes right where you are!
Here are 7 tips to get you started:
1. Reboot Your Brain
Reset yourself when you feel discouraged. Give yourself a 3, 2, 1 countdown and start over by choosing to focus on the positive parts of your life instead of the negative. For example, if you are thinking negatively about your life…pause. Take a deep breath and fill your mind with things that uplift you rather than tear you down.

2. Reach Out
You know the people who offer contagious happiness — the ones in your tribe. Reach out to them and allow their encouragement to remind you what it feels like to be happy! They know your authentic self and can remind you of your worth!
3. Be Vulnerable
When we hide how we feel and bottle it up, we lose happiness a little at a time. Take time to be vulnerable — whether it’s with someone else or just acknowledging the feelings to yourself. You can journal, call a friend, or simply stop blocking out your pain in your mind. When those feelings that are hard to face are finally acknowledged, it’s easier to welcome happiness. As the saying goes, “The first step is admitting the problem…”
4. Solve A Problem
Speaking of admitting the problem, you may not be able to solve the BIG problems you are facing, but spend time solving things you CAN control. Problem-solving brings happiness and can motivate you to tackle the bigger issues.
5. Schedule Free-Time
You may feel overwhelmed and overworked. Make happiness a priority by scheduling free-time for your yourself throughout the week. It may begin with just 5-10 minutes at a time, but as you make free-time a priority, this time slot will begin to grow. Scheduling time for yourself makes time for happiness to grow.
6. Plan Something To Look Forward To
It’s fun to look forward to an event. You can keep it simple by planning a night out with friends or plan something extravagant like a vacation. Make sure it honors your time and current budget so you don’t end up in a bad position afterward.
7. Choose Self-Love
Replace personal judgments and limiting beliefs with self-love. See yourself through a lens of compassion and value. Self-love is a choice that, when done intentionally, it brings happiness. Live a grace-filled life for the sake of others and yourself.
